What are Multi-Point Inspections and When Should I Schedule Them?

Multi-point inspections are bumper-to-bumper appraisals of your vehicles’ primary systems and components. The objective is to assess vehicle risk to allow the owner to correct minor problems with less risk and less cost instead of major problems that reduce reliability and safety with higher repair costs. We recommend scheduling multi-point inspections once or twice per year. Those that adopt a more frequent inspection interval often schedule them between hot and cold seasons known to threaten components, such as batteries, tires, brakes, and windshield wiper blades. Drivers will also schedule inspections to assess and correct performance problems, such as lower fuel efficiency or reduced horsepower/acceleration.

What does a Certified Chevrolet Multi-Point Inspection Include?

Certified Chevrolet multi-point inspections include a certified technician and GM-certified inspection form where component risk scores are recorded. The inspection form is organized by vehicle area and generally includes:

• Primary Systems – Primary systems take up a significant portion of the items checked, including the exhaust, onboard diagnostic system, engine, transmission, suspension, steering, exhaust, engine cooling, and drive belts.
• Safety Controls & Lights – All of the internal controls and exterior lights are checked.
• Brakes – The braking system is visually inspected with brake pads measured to verify ample thickness remains.
• Tires – Inspected for irregular wear, tread depth measured, and air pressures adjusted.
• Battery – Visually inspected and given an electrical test to verify good condition and performance at specifications.
• Fluids & Filters – All fluids are checked at the engine compartment reservoirs and replenished if needed. We inspect the cabin air and engine air filters for clogging.
